All of this information is available at Wikipedia.org, but in a much longer article. They make it clear that there is research that shows benefits of drinking tea, and research also exists that indicates no, or little, benefit of drinking tea. It would seem that since people are different, genetically, the benefits of tea would vary somewhat from person to person. Specific compounds have been isolated in tea that has beneficial effects on people. Therefore, some good must come of it. However, it is known that one of the chemicals tea plants do concentrate is fluoride. Yes, it helps keep your teeth strong and healthy, we are told, but too much is bad. It is poison. Fluoride is even stronger in teas that are water-process decaffeinated.

So, the bottom line is that tea is great, at least for taste and caffeine. Other compounds found in tea are helpful. There is a point, as with all foods, where too much of a good thing is bad.
