Learn how to prepare gourds for artistic expressions. Coil or pine needle weaving incorporated into the design adds interest, texture, and beauty. Create a gourd bowl of your own design.

Portrait Drawing in a Day

Saturday, September 25, 2010; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

In this class, you will learn the classic art of portraiture using charcoal as a medium. Topics will include the history of portraiture, classic drawing in charcoal, line drawing, and working with shadows. No previous art training required. Material list will be sent with confirmation email approximately two weeks prior to the class.

Painting Autumn Trees in Watercolor at Callaway Gardens

Saturday – Sunday, November 6 & 7, 2010, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Enjoy observing and painting the exciting colors of the fall foliage in this weekend workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to paint outdoors, on location, weather permitting. Class includes demonstrations, instruction, critique, and individual coaching.

Autumn Night Walk at Laurel Springs

Saturday, October 9, 2010; 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

As the sun sets, explore the Gardens with a naturalist and see “who” comes out when the sun goes down.

Length: 1.0 mile; easy; ages 7 and up

Pine Mountain Ridge Springheads Hike

Saturday, December 4, 2010; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A naturalist will lead this hike to an area on Pine Mountain Ridge where springheads are abundant. You will have the chance to learn about and explore these amazing habitats! (Note: much of this hike will be off-trail on rocky surfaces.)

Length: 5.5. miles; moderately strenuous; ages 12 and up

Join Callaway Gardens’ horticulturists for an informative, fun-filled weekend jam-packed with gardening experiences. Be prepared to take home an abundance of gardening knowledge and finished gardening projects.

The Annual Plant Fair and Sale scheduled for March 24 – 27, 2011 offers approximately 19 vendors from our area and surrounding states bringing a wide variety of plants and unique garden items. This offers exceptional shopping under one roof. The Annual Plant Fair and Sale is one of the largest fundraising events hosted by Callaway Gardens with proceeds going to the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation in order to support the Gardens and its educational and environmental programming.

Launch your spring gardening endeavors with advice from the experts. Join us for a fantastic gardening experience. You’ll get practical, down-to-earth advice and insight into your gardening activities. You’ll also be inspired with innovations and plant suggestions. Callaway Gardens’ gardening experts will have an in-depth question and answer session. Bring your gardening questions and challenges to see if you can get your perplexing gardening issues solved! After lunch you can spend the afternoon shopping and browsing at the Plant Fair and Sale.
