Acoustic Syndicate to Headline Saturday Night Hickory Oktoberfest

Acoustic SyndicateThe Hickory Oktoberfest is excited to announce that Acoustic Syndicate will be headlining the main stage on Saturday, October 9, 2010 beginning at 9:45 for the Silver Anniversary of Oktoberfest.  For 25 years, Oktoberfest has provided a wealth of music, entertainment, arts, crafts and of course, food, to the Catawba Valley area and beyond.

Known for its high-energy, positive sound, Acoustic Syndicate delivers a genre-defying performance, masterfully blending its eclectic influences with trademark finesse that only 17 years of cohesive teamwork can bring.

Acoustic Syndicate is the product of Cleveland County’s McMurry clan.  His cousins join guitarist Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry, Bryon McMurry on banjo and Fitz McMurry on drums.  The three McMurrys also bring a trademark vocal trio that only a lifetime of singing together can deliver.

Joining the McMurrys in 1998 on bass, Jay Sanders has become part of the family.  A long time resident of Asheville, NC, his seamless blending of musical genres and driving style brought a completion to the band’s sound that continues to characterize and define.

Acoustic Syndicate’s all about making sure it’s an honest alternative, a sound that’s 100 percent its own, but steeped in a rich musical history each band member appreciates.  McMurry said the band’s influences span the musical gamut, including the Grateful Dead, Little Feat, The Police, The Who, Peter Gabriel, Steely Dan, John Hartford and Bill Frisell.

Hickory’s Oktoberfest 2010 is celebrating its 25th year and will be held October 8, 9, and 10, 2010 in Downtown Hickory NC.

The festival is a three-day, outdoor festival held annually on the second weekend in October.  It features five stages of non-stop live entertainment ranging from traditional polka to rock & roll, two beer gardens, amusement rides and carnival games, a juried arts and crafts show, and hundreds of food and commercial vendors.
