Discover 50 Days of Atlanta Holiday Traditions

AtlantaWhether it’s sled riding in Atlanta’s first snow park, ice skating in the city’s only outdoor ice skating rink, or watching the Peach Drop at the largest New Year’s Eve party in the Southeast, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) has wrapped more than 50 of the city’s unique holiday events into an interactive calendar on Atlanta.net. Through the Web site, visitors can discover 50 days of holiday celebrations and explore hotel packages that capture some of the city’s most popular Southern holiday traditions.

The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, offering a Holiday Dreams Package through Dec. 31, is within walking distance to downtown Atlanta’s top attractions. Families will enjoy Holiday in Lights and ice skating at Centennial Olympic Park (Nov. 14 – Jan. 31), the annual Children’s Christmas Parade, photos with Santa at the Georgia Aquarium and a special tree lighting at the World of Coca-Cola. Professional sporting events are just steps away from the park making it effortless for sports fans to cheer on the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena or the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome, also home to the SEC Football Championship (Dec. 5) and the Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec. 31).

The Fabulous Fox Theatre will host two of the season’s holiday extravaganzas: The 50th anniversary of the Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker (Dec. 11-27) and The World Famous Radio City Spectacular, starring The Rockettes (Nov. 19-Dec. 6). A Radio City Christmas Spectacular Package, available at three Atlanta Marriott Hotels during the dates of the show, is the perfect way to kick the holidays into gear. Theater-goers will also enjoy seeing the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform its traditional concerts at The Woodruff Arts Center and the 20th anniversary of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol at the Alliance Theatre.

Westin Buckhead Atlanta’s Holiday Shopping Experience Package (through Dec. 30) includes a $50 Macy’s gift card that can be spent next door to the hotel at Lenox Square mall. Macy’s at Lenox Square also boasts train rides on The Pink Pig (Nov. 1-Jan. 4), an Atlanta holiday tradition that families have been celebrating since 1953.

For those who prefer complimentary in-room movies and food discounts over shopping gift cards, but still want to be near the Southeast’s two premiere shopping malls – Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza – consider the Holiday Package (through Dec. 30) at Doubletree Atlanta Buckhead.

The Stone Mountain Park Christmas Holiday Package at Evergreen Conference Resort is the perfect way to take in the glow of more than 2 million twinkling lights, live entertainment and a special holiday laser show at Stone Mountain Park’s annual Stone Mountain Christmas (Nov. 14-Dec. 30). The park is also home to Snow Mountain which features 10 tubing runs down a 400-foot hill that’s packed with 200 tons of fresh snow (Dec. 26-March 1).
