Hickory’s Oktoberfest 2011 is now accepting applications for Arts and Crafts vendors.  Celebrating its 26th year, this annual festival will be held October 7, 8, and 9, 2011 in Downtown Hickory NC.  Estimated attendance is more than 100,000 for the three day event

The past couple of years have proven to be a tough economic climate for local businesses.  Some Downtown businesses have had enough and are taking matters into their own hands.  Seventeen Downtown Hickory businesses have pulled together to sponsor a local business development campaign called “Fall in Love with Downtown Hickory” from February 7 through February 14th.  Local Hickory shoppers will benefit from the special promotions offered by participating businesses.

Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse Gallery presents their Second Annual Holiday Pottery Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010. The event features potters from North Carolina and the Southeast who will be showing a variety of beautiful, hand-crafted pottery, sculpture and clay art that is perfect for holiday gift giving.

Market on Main presents the 3rd Annual Christmas Jam hosted by Tony Eltora and the Music & Sound Teaching Studio.  The Christmas Jam this year will be at Market on Main (335 Main Ave SW) on Saturday December 11, 2010 from 7pm to 12am.The goal is to help a local family who cannot afford a Christmas this year.

The Service League of Hickory’s presents its 5th Annual Kitchens & More Tour on Saturday, November 20, 2010 (10 am – 5 pm).  This event features five Hickory homes and includes tastings from local chefs along with food demonstrations in each kitchen.  In addition to a variety of musical talent performing in homes, some locations will showcase collectible, antique and classic cars on the property.

Students from twelve area schools- elementary through college- are beginning to collect cans of food for the eleventh annual Castle of Cans Food Drive, a part of Hickory’s Oktoberfest celebration October 9 – 11.
Students will collect food for area food pantries and soup kitchens.

Art in the Shop, an annual Art and Music Festival, will be celebrating its twelfth year anniversary on October 2, 2010. From 10 am to 5 pm, the Shop Stage and surrounding area will be bustling with artists and the sounds of live music will fill the autumn air.  The event will feature local and regional artists along with music and special events.  Food will be available from Brushy Mountain Smokehouse and Creamery.
