According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are roughly 76 million students in the country. These students range from nursery school to college. Many attend campuses that lack healthy food options that are readily available. This issue has come to theforefront through the “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” show, and with the government stepping in to make legislative changes. But the most effective way to inspire change in the foods being offered begins locally.

Over the past few decades, a lot has changed in our pantries. While places like China and the Mediterranean have had essentially the same core diet for centuries, America’s eating habits are like a bad dream. One day you wake up and find that what you’ve been ingesting for the past 10 years was horribly wrong and there is a newer, better system to follow. With all the fad diets and new studies emerging, it’s hard to know whether the foods we find on supermarket shelves are friend or foe. …

What It Is:
“Corned” refers to any meat that is cured or pickled in salty brine.
Corned beef is a prominent ingredient in Jewish and Caribbean cuisine too.
Corning became an especially important method of preservation from the 1680s to the 1800s as ships departed Ireland to explore Britain, continental Europe, Newfoundland and the West Indies.
Most corned beef you buy is tender wet-cured corned beef made from brisket or round steak, but you can also purchase firmer dry-cured corned beef with granular salt or crumbly, oily canned minced salted meat.

Eating well on-the-road is never easy. Just ask President Obama! On his latest trip to Indonesia, his plate was loaded with Basko (meatballs in a bowl of broth), Nasi Goreng (fried rice, shrimp paste, chili, garlic, shallots, meats, vegetables), Empig (puffy fried crackers made from the Belinjo fruit tree) and Krupuk (deep-fried shrimp cracker made with rice starch). In the company of others, you want to appear gracious but not gluttonous. It can be a fine line, however, once the sumptuous feasting begins!

Let’s look at four different levels: Your expectation of success, your body image, your health priority level, and your emotional motivation.

Cakes. Candy. Ice Cream. Or my favorite, cookies. Isn’t it amazing how sometimes we just get a hankering for something sweet? Something chocolatey or creamy but definitely something sugary?
In addition to midday cravings, my special time of day was always at night after dinner. Growing up, this was the time that my mom and I would talk, drink tea and enjoy some cookies. My favorites were Chips Ahoy or Oreos. They still are!

There is an epidemic of obesity and a nation on roller coaster diets. People cycle between eating fattening foods and sticking to the discipline of a “diet” to lose the unwanted weight. So they either feel guilty for eating something they enjoy or deprived for eating something for health. That’s frustrating. Fortunately, there is an alternate mindset to “sticking to your diet” that you can adopt if you choose.

Here is a list of foods that are particularly high in Omega-3, antioxidants, or other substances that promote brain health.
Fish and Seafood
Fish are a great source of Omega-3, and research is strong on the benefits of fish and seafood consumption. In fact, oily ocean fish are the most potent anti-inflammatory food you can put into your body. However, with the publication of research that also shows high amounts of mercury and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in some fish, eating fish and seafood is a little bit scary in today’s toxic world. …

We live fast-paced lives in a fast- paced world. All too often, our food choices are also fast – fast foods, convenience foods, and processed foods – “empty” calories consumed to fill our “empty” stomachs. To live a healthier lifestyle, we need to learn to make smart food choices from every food group. Nutrient-dense foods are the smart choices. They give you the nutrients that you need with fewer calories than other choices in the same group. The wise choices are …
