My name is Kelly Rouba. I’m a Juvenile Arthritis author and spokesperson, having lived with the disease since I was 2 years old.
Recently I had an opportunity to share with the folks at EA Sports Active about my experience using the Nintendo Wii. Since my disease progressed to the point where I was never very mobile, I was never able to engage in real sports like others my age. However, with the Wii, I can finally get active and stay fit and not hurt my joints and body.

It all started, sort of, on October 6th 2009. Almost a year ago. It seems like FOREVER. I did great for 3 months. I lost 30 lbs and got down to 399. Then came Christmas and I lost footing, BIG time. As a healthy vegetarian, I still encounter the challenge of a sweet-fat tooth. To better support my health and fitness challenges in my mid-50s, I have hiked for several years and recently took up running. This past week, I hiked approximately 30 miles in 5 days. I now find that my runs are easier, as I am stronger and more fit from the sequence of hiking and running. My respiratory function is significantly stronger and every day walking is a breeze.
