2008 Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Footrace 10k/5k Winners Announced

The Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Footrace, hosted by Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists, was held on Saturday, October 11, 2008. The race consisted of a 5K and 10K run.

The North Carolina Main Street Center named Swinging Under The Stars—A Tribute to the Big Band Era as the Best Downtown Special Event during the NC Main Street Conference in New Bern. Accepting the award from the NC Secretary of Commerce during the Annual Awards Dinner were Tracy Nestor, 2009 President of Hickory Downtown Development Association, and musician Rick Cline.

Augusta Symphony Youth Competition Winners

Winners of the 2009-2010 Symphony Youth Competition Announced
Symphony Orchestra Augusta, under the direction of Maestro Shizuo Kuwahara, and the Augusta Symphony Guild held its annual Symphony Youth Competition on Sunday, January 24 at 1 p.m. at Augusta State University Performing Arts Theatre. This year’s competition was sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Kraig Wangsnes.
Mackenzie Marr, a sophomore at Davidson Fine Arts School, won the top prize of $500 and an opportunity to perform with the orchestra for her performance on piano.  She will perform with the orchestra during the Young People’s …

I’m selfish and self-absorbed?

I recently realized that I’m selfish and self-absorbed. In my defense, I’ve alwaysknown I was naturally selfish; what human being isn’t? But I never grasped the magnitude of it until the other night.
A friend and I were on our way to Starbucks to drown the day’s anxieties in caffeine and sugar. We were making small talk at a stop light and somehow got on the subject of golf.

Call for Artists Art in the Shop 12th Annual Art Show

Oktoberfest – Hickory, North Carolina

Oktoberfest is back and better than ever! Come and celebrate the 23rd year of Hickory’s Oktoberfest on October 10, 11 and 12, 2008. Two stages will present nonstop musical entertainment on Friday from 5:30 to 11:30 pm, Saturday from noon until 11:30 pm, and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. A new Singer/Songwriter stage has been added with music at 1:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
