Spartanburg Has New Tourism Website

9 February 2010

Planning vacation or business travel to Spartanburg County just became a lot easier, faster and more fun with the launch of a new and improved tourism Website.

The Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) announced today the official tourism Website for the County– www.VisitSpartanburg.com– contains new and exciting features, and will be a very useful tool for visitors and locals alike.

“This Website has all the latest bells and whistles,” said Chris Jennings, Executive Director of the CVB.  “From online hotel room booking to hearing samples of local music, VisitSpartanburg.com is a one-stop resource for travelers.”

One of the new elements on the Website is the ability for the users to create a personal itinerary by “packing their own suitcase”, like a shopping bag of things to see and do while in Spartanburg County. This suitcase can then be printed out or emailed to family and friends. The site also has customized itineraries to fit various interests, whether you’re a foodie, a history buff, an arts lover, a college student, an outdoor enthusiast, or a teacher planning a school trip.

Paying tribute to the rich musical talent in Spartanburg, the Website features an online Jukebox, where you can listen to songs by local musicians while surfing the site. The site also features a community calendar that pulls info from other web-based calendar listings in the region, making it the one-stop source for all major Spartanburg events.

“With nearly 80 percent of consumers searching the web to make travel decisions, it is crucial for our site to be as informative as possible,” said Dan Freeland, General Manager of the Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park, and chairman of the CVB Steering Committee.  “I am extremely proud of the work that has taken place to fund and build such a critical tool for our County.  Our locals and visitors will have a single source to get “plugged in” to what’s happening in Spartanburg.  I am amazed what Lauren Ponder and Amy Phillips, with the CVB, have been able to do in such a short period of time.”

Jennings also thanked Glenn Breed and the Spartanburg County Council, noting the Website redesign was funded through a grant from the County of Spartanburg, utilizing Accommodations Tax funds.

Not only will this new Website contain many fun and interactive features, it will also play a very important role in tracking and measuring analytics. Being able to track visitation to the site by geographic areas will allow the CVB to focus its marketing dollars on those markets.
