Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher is on tour from New York City and is making a concert stop in Hickory. The recording artist and concert performer will offer his interpretations of Bach, Albéniz, Ravel, Grieg and more on Thursday, Sept. 16th at 7:00 p.m. The free concert will be held at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block in Hickory. No reservations are necessary.

Local pottery lovers took their art appreciation to the next level recently at Outlaw Pottery Studio, School and Gallery when they participated in a face mug workshop taught by potter, sculptor and ceramic artist Jason Outlaw of Hickory.

Hickory’s Oktoberfest 2010 is now accepting applications for Arts and Crafts vendors. Celebrating its 25th year, this annual festival will be held October 8, 9, and 10, 2010 in Downtown Hickory NC. Estimated attendance is over 100,000.

Hickory will rock on July 9, 2010 when Hickory Alive!  returns with the eighties sounds of Blindvision.  Blindvision features Teal Devlin drums, lead vocals, Danny Fire, bass, vocals, Pete Amisano, lead guitar vocals, Bob Beck, Guitar, vocals and Tonya Johnson, keyboard, vocals.  The band focuses on Rock covers, Alternative and Classic Rock.  Featured artists include Benatar, Blondie, Poison, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Journey, Cheap Trick and many others as well as original music.

As of last Fall, Brett’s Ride is one of only eight entities that comprise a partnership called the “Carolinas Kids Cancer Research Coalition”.  This Coalition will help fund certain clinical trials by the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.  These clinical trials will offer experimental drugs to children who have cancers that recur after initial treatment fails.

The Bethlehem Community Development Association in Alexander County is sponsoring a Community Day and Classic Car & Truck Show on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will be held at Lowes Food Business District, 9441 NC 127 Hwy, Hickory, NC 28601 (Bethlehem Crossroads). Rain date will be June 12.

Return to the sounds of yesteryear on May 30, 2010, with Swingin’ Under the Stars, featuring the Hickory Jazz Orchestra.  Swingin’ Under the Stars is Hickory’s Memorial Tribute to the Big Band Era.  This popular event is held on the Flag Court of Union Square in Downtown Hickory in celebration of Memorial Day.
