Visitors to the coast this summer can mix arts and heritage along with sun and sand at “2nd Saturdays: History, Heritage, Arts & Fun” events organized by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resource. The Azalea Coast Amateur Radio Club will operate from the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA during the North Carolina QSO Party on Sunday, February 28, 2010. The event runs from Noon until 8:00PM local time. The purpose of this annual “HAM RADIO” event, sponsored by the Forsyth Amateur Radio Club, is to allow amateur radio operators worldwide to contact as many of North Carolina’s 100 counties as possible.

The Carolina Sports Medicine Battleship NC Half Marathon & Bay Six Battleship 5K was a huge success. We had participants from 27 states with 1,227 in the Carolina Sports Medicine Half Marathon and 537 registered in the Bay Six 5K which were both records. We had 69 Walkers in the half marathon and are very proud of that fact.

Saturday, March 13th, join us for a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of un-restored areas of the Battleship. The four-hour tour consists of small groups with guides. Guests explore the bow (officers’ country and boatswain locker), third deck (Radio II, brig, after gyro, storage rooms, ammunition handling, Engineer’s office, torpedo area), engine room #3, the cold storage compartments, and up inside the fire control tower to the top of the ship. The Azalea Coast Radio Club will be in Radio II to explain their work on the ship’s radio transmitters.

Come have fun aboard the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA for the 1st annual Batty Battleship’s Halloween Bash. Carnival festivities will invite trick-or-treaters of all ages on Tuesday, October 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
Bring your family in their best Halloween Costumes for games, candy and more! Inflatable bouncer, fishing for ducks it’s all a part of the fun! Also, don’t miss a ride on a pony or a llama. There will face painting, story telling even a mini haunted house, the festivities continue on.
