SmartGuard night guard

The SmartGuard solves a lot of problems that accompany available OTC night guards today. Gagging is non-existant, it stays in place nicely, a more important feature to recognize is that it doesn’t cause many problems and symptoms that other guards can cause. The SmartGuard Night Guard is an excellent replacement for custom made TMJ Splints made at the dental office. It doesn’t allow your back teeth to touch, so it also protects your teeth from the affects of grinding. So, if you’re a grinder, a headache sufferer, Ringing in the ears, or a TMJ sufferer, the SmartGuard can reduce all of those symptoms. The surprising symptom that this guard reduces, is the tension headache and even some “migraine” headaches. It seems that the most common symptom relieved as much as jaw pain, is the headache. Statistics show that 82% of headache sufferers will have a 77% reduction in their headaches from wearing this type of guard.

Sleepright Dura Comfort NO BOIL Dental Night Guard

Sleepright Splintek Dura Comfort NO BOIL Dental Night Tooth Teeth Guard. Fits most individuals and recommended for sleep because it features stability wings for extra safety. Includes one dental guard, one carrying case, and fitting instructions. How does the SleepRight dental guard work? Clenching and grinding teeth has been classified as a neuromuscular disorder. Overactive muscles can cause chipping, fractures, excessive wear and loosening of the teeth. Some studies report that chronic jaw clenching and teeth grinding may be related to head and neck muscle tension and pain in the jaw joints. The SleepRight®’s articulating bitepads, made of a resilient hybrid material, slip comfortably between your teeth and are designed to re-establish your natural freeway space. While the SleepRight® protects teeth from clenching and grinding, we emphasize and strongly encourage our customers to concentrate on, lips together, teeth apart to initiate the muscle relaxation learning process. When directed by the brain, muscles at ease will allow the teeth to rest on the bitepads. Do not bite down, although the natural urge to do so will test your mental approach to learning “lips together, teeth apart”. The temporomandibular joint is the joint of the jaw that is generally known as TMJ. There are two TMJs, one on either side, and they work together. The name is comes from the two bones that form the joint: the upper temporal bone which is part of the cranium (skull), and the lower jaw bone called the mandible. The unique feature of the TMJs is the articular disc. The disc is composed of fibrocartilagenous tissue (like the firm and flexible elastic cartilage of the ear) which is positioned between the two bones that form the joint. The TMJs are one of the few synovial joints in the human body with an articular disc, another being the sternoclavicular joint. The disc divides each joint into two. The lower joint compartment formed by the mandible and the articular disc is involved in rotational movement—this is the initial movement of the jaw when the mouth opens. The upper joint compartment formed by the articular disk and the temporal bone is involved in translational movement—this is the secondary gliding motion of the jaw as it is opened widely. The part of the mandible which mates to the under-surface of the disc is the condyle and the part of the temporal bone which mates to the upper surface of the disk is the glenoid (or mandibular) fossa.

Pain or dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint is commonly referred to as “TMJ“, when in fact, TMJ is really the name of the joint, and Temporomandibular joint disorder (or dysfunction) is abbreviated TMD. This term is used to refer to a group of problems involving the TMJs and the muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, and other tissues associated with them. Some practitioners might include the neck, the back and even the whole body in describing problems with the TMJs. Information from Wikipedia.
